We are proud to join schools across the nation in recognizing National School Bus Safety Week, observed October 20-24, 2025. This year’s campaign serves as an important reminder that safety on and around school buses is everyone’s responsibility—drivers, students, and parents alike.
Our transportation department is committed to ensuring that every student arrives at school and home safely each day. To support this goal, we encourage everyone to review and practice the following safety guidelines:
For Drivers
Stop for flashing red lights: When a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, all traffic in both directions must stop.
Reduce distractions: Pay close attention to buses and students, especially near bus stops and school zones.
Watch for children: Be alert for children crossing streets or approaching bus stops.
For Students
At the bus stop:
Arrive at the stop at least five minutes early.
Stand six feet (about five giant steps) away from the curb.
Wait until the bus has come to a complete stop and the driver has signaled before boarding.
On the bus:
Remain seated while the bus is moving.
Keep aisles and exits clear of backpacks and belongings.
Always follow the driver’s instructions.
Exiting the bus:
Wait until the bus is fully stopped before getting up.
Look left, right, and left again before crossing the street.
If you drop something near the bus, tell the driver instead of picking it up yourself.
For Parents and Caregivers
Remind children of safety rules: Go over safe waiting, riding, and exiting procedures regularly.
Reinforce good behavior: Encourage your child to stay seated, use a quiet voice, and follow the driver’s directions.
Together, we can make every school day a safe one. Please join us in promoting awareness and practicing safe habits during National School Bus Safety Week—and all year long.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students safe.
