We have well over 100 bikers a day at HMS - about 1/3 of our students! We can also identify this amount as .333 or 33.3%. We love to see so many of our students biking and walking to school. We also love math!

One of the hallmarks of HMS is that we are a community that reads. The line to check out books during the first two days of school has been lengthy!

Jasper Keller, 7th grader, designed and built a new shelving unit for our library! He did some great problem-solving, including how to build it in parts to fit through narrow doors. Thank you to Mr. Corey, HMS STEAM teacher, for his support. Great work, Jasper, and thank you!

Yarmouth's electric buses are hitting the road for the first time this afternoon. Ms. Carlson and Mr. Thompson will be transporting students home in a super-quiet and eco-friendly fashion. Keep an eye - and an ear - out for these blue-trimmed beauties!

Dylan Johnson, 7th grader, is attempting to read all of the Maine State Book Award books this year. He has currently read 11 books from the list! His favorite so far has been the graphic novel, Roll Call. Way to go, Dylan!

Sailing Opportunity! The Yarmouth High School sailing team is excited to share the joy of sailing with potential sailors. The SailMaine program is open to anyone, including novices. There are scholarships for equipment, and the community is well supported. This is a great opportunity for children who live in Yarmouth to learn a lifelong sport. The HS team is holding a "take a friend sailing" event, with their SailMaine coaches, on Monday, May 22. We would love to extend this invitation to the HMS community, especially 8th graders who might consider (and not be aware of ) this great opportunity to sail in high school. The Yarmouth Track & Field team is hosting their 2nd annual Friends & Family meet on Sunday, 5/21 at 10:00 am! All ages/abilities welcome, with races for kids, teens, and adults. $10 entry fee to run as many events as you like! All funds raised go to the Yarmouth Track boosters.

Join us for a Garden Work Day this Sunday at the new Yarmouth School Garden Space at YES/Winslow Fields! Melissa McNaboe, School Garden Coordinator, will lead volunteers in filling garden beds, digging plots, and doing general cleanup. Sunday, May 21st, from 2:30 - 4:30 PM.

Information for our upcoming HMS Spring Band and Chorus Concerts: Tuesday, May 9 - 6th Grade Spring Band and Chorus Concert. Students should be dropped off between 6pm and 6:10pm at the high school band and chorus rooms. The YPAC will open for audience seating at 6:00pm. At our Career Day today, Brad Stout from Coutts Construction talked with students about careers in electrical line construction. It was fascinating!
