June 1, 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians-

This is a bittersweet time at HMS as we get ready to bid farewell to our 8th grade students and welcome our new 5th grade class. We know you join us in congratulating the 8th graders on reaching this point in their educational careers and wishing them well as they embark on their journey through the high school years. As we prepare to say goodbye to this class, we are also excited about meeting our incoming 5th graders and welcoming them to their new school! We look forward to hosting them and helping them to become familiar with HMS at step-up day on June 11.

We share the following information with you in support of our students’ safety and well-being. Please take some time to talk with your children about safety around railroad tracks/crossings, and bicycle safety:

-Train Safety-Operation Lifesaver is working to change people's behavior around railroad tracks and crossings with the national public awareness campaign, See Tracks? Think Train!

-Students who bike to school have to come to a complete stop at crosswalks and when they leave the path in the woods from the teachers’ parking lot, in front of the band room entrance. Students are not coming to a full stop there to check for cars.

-HMS Water Safety-  The Yarmouth Water District flushed several hydrants today which temporarily discolored the water in our building.   We were advised to let the water run until the water cleared. Students were advised not to drink the water temporarily. The water was fine by the end of the day.
