Dear YHS Families,

It is hard to believe that the first month of school is already behind us. I’m sure we are all feeling a sense of great relief that we have returned to school five days a week, and many YHS teachers have acknowledged how wonderful it is to see our students every day.  As we now head into the second month of the year, I am excited to return to YHS on a more regular basis as I have greatly missed working with our students and staff.  I would also like to thank assistant principal Amy Bongard, interim assistant principal Jeff Rodman, and our entire faculty who have worked incredibly hard the past month to ensure students have been able to start the school year on a positive note.  It should come as no surprise that October brings another round of important events, and we would like to share the following updates with you.

Open House

For those of you who may have missed last week’s online Open House, our teachers have put together “landing pages” for each classroom link here which offer two helpful resources to parents. First, all YHS teachers will be using online course syllabi this year that can be found on this document.  Second, teachers have provided a quick introductory video to each of your child’s classes. If you are interested in meeting with your child’s teachers, we will be holding online parent teacher conferences, called “learning area” conferences, in early November after the end of the first quarter.

Progress Reports

We have also reached the midpoint of the first quarter and your student’s progress report will be available on PowerSchool this Wednesday.   As we are still in the first few weeks of school, teachers will only be writing comments if they have any academic or behavioral concerns at this point in the school year.

Student Accident Insurance

As a service to students and their families, Yarmouth makes a student accident insurance plan available at a nominal cost. Details including enrollment and payment instructions may be found at www.1stAgency.com.  Any questions regarding this coverage should be directed to First Agency at (269) 381-6630, or toll free at (800) 243-6298.

Financial Aid Night

YHS Guidance Department will host their annual Financial Aid Night this Wednesday, October 6th beginning at 6:30 p.m. Although virtual this year, it will be a live presentation by Andrea Cross, Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid at Bowdoin College who will update families on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), explain how to navigate the student aid application process and share important changes for the 2022 school year. There will be an opportunity for a live Q & A session.  Please join us at the link below.  Please note this presentation will be recorded and posted to the Guidance website following the evening session.

No School this Friday and Monday

A quick reminder that there is no school on Friday October 8th as our faculty will be attending workshops, and there will be no school on Monday, October 11th in recognition of the Indigenous People’s Day holiday.

9th Grade Field Trip Next Week

A reminder that the entire 9th grader class will be taking an outdoor field trip to Fort Williams on Wednesday, October 13th and there will be no late arrival.  All 9th grade students should arrive to YHS at 8 am.

PSAT Tests

PSAT testing for sophomores and juniors is Wednesday, October 13th.  A reminder that this is not a late start for these students and they will need to report to their testing room by 7:50am. Students will then go to their 4th and 5th period classes. Students who elect to not take the PSATs will be assigned a study hall. This year's registration fee is $25 which must be received in the guidance office by this Thursday, October 7. Payment can be made by cash or check (to Yarmouth High School) or credit card (payment link is here.) If paying by credit card, please have your child stop by the guidance office for a study guide. Fee waivers are also available upon request if necessary. Please note that the Customer ID is the student's name.
