December

Happy Wednesday, Rowe Families!

How are we already at our December Family Update? This year is certainly flying by. As they saying goes, “Time flies when you’re having fun” and we are certainly having A LOT of fun at Rowe School! We have so many celebrations to share with you from November and are excited for all to come in December!

November Highlights!

  • Chewonki Visited Rowe School!

Kindergarteners were able to learn a lot about bats and first graders were able to learn a lot about owls!

  • Captain’s Crew!

Our first grade leadership groups started this month and will continue into the first part of December. First graders have been identifying what good leaders do and thinking about what they can each do to be good leaders at school, within their family, with their friends and of themselves. Our young leaders are so insightful and have powerful ideas about their roles as leaders. We are excited to see where this work will take our school moving forward! Check out some of their ideas:

Other qualities they have identified are:

  • Do the right thing, even when it’s hard

  • Listen to your body

  • Teach others to be good leaders

  • Make sure everyone is safe

  • Community Meetings ~ Mrs. Turkey Bird!

This month our Community Meetings have focused on being THANKFUL. We also had an in-house celebrity visit each community meeting… Mrs. Turkey Bird! Learners across our school had fun learning the Mrs. Turkey Bird song and sharing the joy of it together during community meeting. Ask your child to share it with you (if they haven’t already!). Be prepared… it’s catchy!

  • PB&J Drive

    • Thanks to all of our Rowe School family and community, we were able to donate 215 items towards the Peanut Butter and Jelly drive! The YHS Seniors organizing this food insecurity project were so grateful for our support. THANK YOU!

Coming in With the Tide (December)

  • 12/14: PTO Meeting ~ 4:00-5:00 at YES

  • 12/14: School Committee Meeting ~ 7:00

  • 12/19: Whole School Community Meeting!

  • 12/22-1/1: No School ~ Winter Break!

General Updates

  • Car Loop

    • Families - we need your help! We need to request that the car loop that goes around the back of our school is not used between the hours of 8:40 and 3:00 - with the exception of Pre-K mid-day pick up if needed. When the loop is used, please be sure to proceed with extreme caution and observe the posted speed limit as we regularly have children either going on movement breaks or accessing the park when we can. We have seen an increase in cars passing quickly through this area. We really appreciate your attention to and partnership with this in helping us keep our learners and staff safe.

  • 2-Hr Delays: Pre-K

    • We are moving into the time of year when weather may impact our school days. Sometimes this may be in the form of a 2-Hour delay. I wanted to be sure Pre-K families had an advanced “heads-up” that in the event of a 2-Hour Delay, AM PreK will be canceled and PM PreK will still be in session

  • Volunteering in our Schools

Volunteering Process: Please see the attached flier from our Volunteer Coordinator, Rebecca Spear. It is important to note that ALL volunteers MUST have a completed volunteer form and have a clear background check prior to engaging in any volunteer activities in any of our schools.

We continue to be so THANKFUL for all of you and your support and partnership with our school. Our school wouldn’t be what it is without this incredibly  supportive community helping us out, every step of the way. THANK YOU for all you do. We hope you all  have a most wonderful Thanksgiving.
