Welcome to Yarmouth SchoolsYarmouth Schools serve just over 1500 students in kindergarten through Grade 12 in the beautiful New England town of Yarmouth, Maine. Located ten miles north of Portland, Maine’s largest city, and bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, Yarmouth is one of the more picturesque, yet accessible, communities north of Boston. Performance indicators of every type point to the Yarmouth schools being among the finest in New England, both on the academic scale and in terms of our co-curricular and community service offerings. Highly qualified staff, motivated students, and engaged parents are our greatest resources, complimented by significant instructional technology, community investment in education, and well-maintained, updated facilities. Our mission, “Empowering All Students to Create Fulfilling Lives in a Changing World” directs our work each day, and we strive to send our graduates into the world ready to learn, work, and contribute positively in a dynamic society. October 20-24 is Bus Driver Appreciation Week!
Bus Drivers are critical members of the educational team in the Yarmouth School Department. For many of our students, these are the first school employees they see each day, and the last ones to bid them goodbye in the afternoon. They provide safe transportation for hundreds of students over tens of thousands of miles each year, and they do so with a cheerful and helpful attitude. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated group transporting our students each day, and this week, in particular, we pause to recognize their efforts.
If you get a chance this week, please say a special "Thank You" to our outstanding drivers!
From our Superintendent
I am pleased to welcome you to our district website. As a newcomer to Yarmouth, I have found this site to be informative and helpful as I attempt to learn more about our schools, our programs, and our community, and I encourage you to spend some time browsing through the many links provided here.
Having joined this talented and dedicated team of educators on July 1, I have met many individuals who have expressed to me their passion for working with the students of Yarmouth. I have been impressed by the consistent use of words and phrases such as “collaborative”, “respectful”, “focused”, and “high standards” during conversations I have had with administrators, teachers, board members, parents, and other staff members. It is clear that Yarmouth is a wonderful place in which to live, work, play, and be educated, and I am pleased to join the team.
From the first day of school in September, it has been our intent to hit the ground running for another highly successful year, helping each student reach his or her potential in the classroom, on the stage, on the fields of play, and in the community. Our mission, “Empowering All Students to Create Fulfilling Lives in a Changing World”, is a challenging task, and one we approach with an appropriate blend of demand, support, compassion, and fun.
As we attempt to meet the needs of each student, we realize that our mission cannot be fully accomplished without the support of our students’ families and the larger community. Working together, we can provide the experiences and opportunities that will assist each student to demonstrate growth. I look forward to working with each of you to continue the tradition of excellence that has become synonymous with the Yarmouth School Department.
