Welcome to Yarmouth Schools
Yarmouth Schools serve just over 1500 students in kindergarten through Grade 12 in the beautiful New England town of Yarmouth, Maine. Located ten miles north of Portland, Maine’s largest city, and bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, Yarmouth is one of the more picturesque, yet accessible, communities north of Boston. Performance indicators of every type point to the Yarmouth schools being among the finest in New England, both on the academic scale and in terms of our co-curricular and community service offerings. Highly qualified staff, motivated students, and engaged parents are our greatest resources, complemented by significant instructional technology, community investment in education, and well-maintained, updated facilities. Our mission, “Empowering All Students to Create Fulfilling Lives in a Changing World” directs our work each day, and we strive to send our graduates into the world ready to learn, work, and contribute positively in a dynamic society. Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, the Superintendent will be distributing periodic updates to all staff and parents in the district.  These updates will provide general information on topics of interest to the school community. We will also post these updates on this site for your convenience.

Who We Are; Data about the Yarmouth Schools - 2014

In this memo to the Strategic Planning Team, Superintendent Andrew Dolloff reveals some of the data that describes the Yarmouth Schools in 2014.  Although this is merely a starting point for those hoping to understand who we are at this time, there is much useful data that may be of interest to parents and community members alike.

From our Superintendent

I am pleased to welcome you to our district website. As a newcomer to Yarmouth, I have found this site to be informative and helpful as I attempt to learn more about our schools, our programs, and our community, and I encourage you to spend some time browsing through the many links provided here.

Having joined this talented and dedicated team of educators on July 1, I have met many individuals who have expressed to me their passion for working with the students of Yarmouth. I have been impressed by the consistent use of words and phrases such as “collaborative”, “respectful”, “focused”, and “high standards” during conversations I have had with administrators, teachers, board members, parents, and other staff members. It is clear that Yarmouth is a wonderful place in which to live, work, play, and be educated, and I am pleased to join the team.

From the first day of school in September, it has been our intent to hit the ground running for another highly successful year, helping each student reach his or her potential in the classroom, on the stage, on the fields of play, and in the community. Our mission, “Empowering All Students to Create Fulfilling Lives in a Changing World”, is a challenging task, and one we approach with an appropriate blend of demand, support, compassion, and fun.

As we attempt to meet the needs of each student, we realize that our mission cannot be fully accomplished without the support of our students’ families and the larger community. Working together, we can provide the experiences and opportunities that will assist each student to demonstrate growth. I look forward to working with each of you to continue the tradition of excellence that has become synonymous with the Yarmouth School Department.

Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Process

The budget development process for the 2015-2016 school year has begun.  On January 22, Superintendent Andrew Dolloff presented his proposed budget to the School Committee.  The School Committee unanimously approved the $22,012,742 budget at its March 26th meeting and presented the budget to the Town Council on Thursday, April 2nd. You may view the slide show of the presentation here. Please note that the figures in the presentation are accurate as of April 2.  As more information becomes available regarding revenue (such as state aid) and expenditures (such as health insurance premiums), we will be working to update the information.

The Council will hold public hearings on April 16 and May 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Log Cabin, and voters will be asked to approve the budget twice (per Maine law) in June. The first vote will take place at Harrison Middle School on June 2 at the Annual Town Meeting at 7:00 p.m., and the second vote will be by referendum on June 9.  The proposed FY16 School Budget, by line-item, has been posted online for your review.

Strategic Planning Underway

In October, the School Committee formed a ten-member Strategic Planning Team to create a five-year plan for the Yarmouth Schools.  Please read more about the Team's progress, and opportunities for community and staff engagement, on our Superintendent of Schools' page.
