NECAP - New England Common Assessment Program
Students are assessed in reading and mathematics in Grades 3-8 as part of Maine's compliance with the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Prior to 2010, students were assessed using the Maine Educational Assessment (MEA). In 2010, the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) was adopted for use in Maine following collaboration with the states of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. These assessments will be replaced in 2015 with the Smarter Balanced assessment.
Smarter Balanced AssessmentDuring the 2014-2015 School year Maine administered Smarter Balanced Assessment scores in English language arts and mathematics for grades 3 through 8. These results are reflective of a more rigorous assessment. The 2016 State summative assessment in Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA)/Literacy for grades 3-8 will be delivered online using iTester platform for eMPower™ME provided by subcontractor eMetric, LLC
