Front Office Secretary - Yarmouth High School

Job DescriptionThe Front Office Secretary works at the front office desk along with one other secretary.  This particular position works closely with the assistant principal. This is a year round, full time secretarial position, approximately 40 hours a week (7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs period attendance throughout the school day. Monitors student absences and tardies. Contacts teachers who have not completed attendance.
  • Contacts parents regarding attendance information (absences, tardies, and dismissals).
  • Answers the telephone, greets visitors, refers people to the appropriate school personnel, gives messages to the appropriate persons, and answers questions
  • Coordinates communication with students, parents, and staff regarding discipline incidents.
  • Maintains the office detention attendance records. Emails students and their parents who are assigned office and Saturday detention.
  • Monitors the PATHS student attendance and records any absences from PATHS.
  • Maintains and updates student records and files.
  • Completes the Calendar Setup in PowerSchool according to the school calendar.
  • Works closely with the assistant principal in the monitoring of senior privileges.
  • Works closely with the principal’s secretary in coordinating office functions.
  • Works closely with the assistant principal in scheduling appointments, coordinating duties, sending out letters, and other work assigned by the assistant principal.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.


  • Excellent “people skills” in interacting with students, parents, staff and community members.
  • Problem solver who can find the right person to help resolve issues.
  • Maintains good, positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Experience with PowerSchool or equivalent.
  • Solid computer skills, including the use of word processing, spreadsheets, Google Docs, and website updating.
