On Wednesday, September 5, the Yarmouth Town Council voted 6-0 to place on the November 6, 2018 ballot two questions that address much-needed school expansion projects:
- Part I will ask for voter approval of up to $39.8 million for expansion of Yarmouth High School, expansion and renovation of Yarmouth Elementary School, roof replacement at Harrison Middle School, and minor interior work at Rowe School.
- Part II proposes expansions at Harrison Middle School and Rowe School, with roof replacement at Yarmouth High School, at a total cost not to exceed $12.2 million.
As you are likely aware, our schools are near or over capacity at this time, with projected enrollment growth to continue for the next decade. After more than two years of studying and planning for this concern, the School Committee has proposed this four-school expansion as the most economical way to effectively provide the educational space needed for the students of Yarmouth.
To learn more about these projects, please access our Facilities Committee page on the School Department website. We will also hold two more Public Information Sessions prior to the November 6 vote:
- Monday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Yarmouth High School cafeteria
- Thursday, October 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Yarmouth High School cafeteria
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with these projects and to make your way to the polls on Tuesday, November 6 to cast your ballot on these critical questions for the future of the Yarmouth Schools.
