Philip Jones

The Yarmouth community suffered a tremendous loss on Sunday, August 11 with the untimely passing of Philip Jones, who was a current member of the Yarmouth School Committee.  Philip provided a moderating voice to many community issues, always listening first to the opinions of others before expressing his thoughts in a respectful, productive manner.  Philip's witty comments, accompanied by his hearty chuckle, were welcomed by all who knew him, and his dedication to Yarmouth's schools and community were topped only by his devotion to his wife, Mary, and their two wonderful children, Samantha and Jack - both recent graduates of Yarmouth High School.

Philip was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word.  He will be remembered for his kindness to others and his concern for the dignity of each individual, along with his ability to find humor and enjoyment in almost every situation.

A celebratory memorial service will be held at 603 Bayview Street in Yarmouth on Saturday, August 17 at 2:00 p.m.  Shuttle service will be provided from the Exit 17 Park and Ride on Interstate 295 starting at 1:15 p.m.

A special election will be held on September 10, as required by Town Charter, to fill Philip's seat on the School Committee.
